Reading Mark Carney’s Astrology Chart

Reading Mark Carney’s Astrology Chart

NOTE: I wrote this article before I learned Mark Carney’s exact birth time. I did a second post using his confirmed chart – click here to read.

Canada has a new Prime Minister: what does his horoscope tell us?

It’s no wonder Mark Carney became Canada’s new Prime Minister under a lunar eclipse in Virgo. The current eclipse cycle – combined with all the other planetary transits in March 2025 – are lighting up his natal chart like a Christmas tree.

I pulled up Carney’s chart a few months ago when I was working on my 2025 Canada forecast. I was disappointed, but not surprised, to find that we don’t have a birth time for him. It’s extremely common not to have timed charts for Canadians, because birth times are not recorded on birth certificates in Canada.

Even without a time, however, it was obvious that the 2025 eclipses would have a huge impact on Carney, because he has a stellium in both Virgo and Pisces. The lunar nodes moved into Virgo-Pisces on January 11, 2025, moving the eclipse cycle fully into that axis.

Carney has seven planets in Virgo-Pisces, so any transits in those signs will be very impactful. And that’s where most of the planetary activity is located right now.

I would love to rectify Carney’s chart properly, but sadly I just don’t have the time to tackle a project of that size. (If only astrology research and writing was my full-time job!) So, I threw some astrology dice on it. They told me that Carney’s Ascendant is in the first decan of Gemini.

Now, this is pure divination – take it with a grain of salt. This is not my usual process for rectification, either. Usually, I employ a rigorous process using a set of key life events and use those to slowly and methodically arrive at a birth time. But I don’t have the capacity to do that, so astro dice it is.

Here’s Carney’s chart with the Gemini rising that the dice gave me. Don’t pay attention to the angles/houses, because again I arrived at those from a toss of the dice. But I had to pick a time and thought that would be more fun that just setting it at noon.

As a side note, I actually like Gemini rising for Carney. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and exchange of ideas and money (among many other things, of course). Carney’s career has been in economics and finance, having worked for both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. A Mercury ruled chart makes sense for him, especially with his stellium in Virgo.

Carney has a mutual reception between Mercury in Aries and Mars in Virgo. They are inconjunct, meaning the two planets aren’t aspecting each other with any traditional aspects. Mutual receptions are still usually seen as a positive influence over both planets, even when they aren’t in aspect. The reception allows them to work more easily together.

As I mentioned, the current eclipse cycle is really impacting his chart, given all his planets in Virgo-Pisces. The recent lunar eclipse on March 14, 2025 was at 23 Virgo, which is close to Carney’s Uranus, Pluto, Moon and Mars.

The upcoming solar eclipse on March 29, 2025 is at 9 Aries, which is only 4 degrees from Carney’s Mercury. As previously described, Mercury is a very important planet for him given that it rules all those planets in Virgo and is in mutual reception with his Mars in Pisces.

The eclipses in September 2025 will similarly light up Carney’s chart. There’s a lunar eclipse on September 7, 2025 at 15 Pisces, which is very close to Carney’s Venus and will also impact his Saturn and Sun. This is followed by a solar eclipse on September 21, 2025 at 29 Virgo. While that’s not super close to his Virgo placements by degree, it still lights up that sign. Eclipses have a wide orb, at least 18 degrees, and when I’m working with Whole Sign Houses I consider the entire sign anyway.

Eclipses have long been associated with kings, particularly the death of kings – and when one king falls, another rises. Carney was sworn in just a few hours after that lunar eclipse on March 14. And we saw the former “king” stepping down, and the new king stepped up.

Let’s take a look at the chart of Carney’s swearing in as Prime Minister – I watched the ceremony live to get the exact time. This is the moment he signed the paper to become PM, with his natal chart on the inside.

Eclipses aside, you can also see a number of other key transits impacting his chart at this time. On the day he was sworn in as PM, Mercury was stationing retrograde at 9 Aries – just 4 degrees shy of his natal Mercury. Venus retrograde was close by at 7 Aries.

Remember that 9 Aries is the exact degree of the solar eclipse on March 29, 2025 – so there’s a direct connection between Mercury’s retrograde cycle and this eclipse.

The typical advice for Mercury retrograde periods is not to sign contracts or other documents of any importance during this period. I can’t think of a more important document than the one that makes you the Prime Minister of a country. The usual wisdom is that contracts signed under a Mercury retrograde period will need to be revised, or could be rendered void prematurely, or may otherwise have some kind of complications. On its own, that doesn’t suggest great staying power for Carney.

Indeed, Carney called a federal election today, March 23, 2025, with an election date set for April 28, 2025. If he doesn’t end up winning, he’ll go down in Canadian history as the shortest-reigning Prime Minister with a term of only 45 days. The current holder of that title is Charles Tupper, with a term of 68 days.

However, eclipses throw all the usual rules out the window. Eclipses are very unpredictable and chaotic. The only thing you can be sure of with eclipses is that when they strongly affect your chart, strange and unexpected things will happen.

Eclipses are also famously associated with the death of kings. But remember the adage spoken in England upon the death of a monarch (which is also pertinent for Canadians, as England’s monarch is our highest head of state): “The king is dead; long live the king!”

So, all bets are off with Carney. Will he become our eclipse Prime Minister, destined to lead us through a monumental era in Canadian history? Or is he a Mercury retrograde PM, who will reign briefly and then have the rug pulled out from under him?

There are a few more clues in Carney’s chart as to what may be coming. Everything in the sky is happening under a strong Neptunian influence – the Neptune Event Horizon, as I like to call it. Neptune is dreams, illusions, delusions. It obscures and confuses and destabilizes. This is why it’s especially difficult to have any sense of what’s about to happen. This is true on an individual level and certainly on a geopolitical one.

Neptune is very close to Carney’s Sun, and will ingress Aries on March 30, 2025 just a few hours after the solar eclipse. I am expecting some big events around these couple days, which will initially appear to be one thing, but will suddenly become something else entirely as Neptune makes that epochal sign change and gives us our first glimpses of what its 14-year journey through Aries will bring.

Neptune leaving Pisces means that Carney’s Sun no longer has a Neptunian haze overtop of it. Perhaps this will reveal some things about his leadership, reputation and visibility that were previously hidden under a veil – for better or worse.

Carney is also nearing the end of his second Saturn return. He has passed the time period when it was exact, but it’s still in effect so long as Saturn is in Pisces. Saturn makes his first ingress into Aries on May 24, 2025 but will retrograde back a few months later. So he’s not truly done with his Saturn return until Saturn ingresses Aries for good on February 13, 2026.

Saturn teaches hard lessons and Saturn return periods are often more difficult, though as one ages, many Saturn issues get easier to manage.

Carney’s chart doesn’t seem to be particularly influenced by Saturn, unless his Saturn is angular and/or he has angles in Capricorn/Aquarius. Because his Saturn return has been under the influence of Neptune, I think it just ties in again with the murky Neptune veil overtop the world in general, making it so difficult to know what the truth actually is.

There are a couple other things to note about the current transits and Carney’s chart: transiting Uranus is close to his natal Jupiter. Uranus is another very destabilizing influence. I just read a book by Joan Quigley, who was the presidential astrologer to Ronald and Nancy Reagan (stay tuned for a post on this soon), and she describes Uranus as both “a kingmaker and a throne-toppler.” This is very similar to the action of eclipses.

Jupiter rules Pisces, and therefore has a strong influence over the Pisces sector of Carney’s chart. That sector is being impacted by all the planets transiting Pisces in March 2025, his Saturn return, and the current eclipse cycle. So, Uranus’ transit over his Jupiter is adding to the major life movements he’s experiencing. Even though Uranus is so chaotic and unpredictable, because it’s conjunct Carney’s Jupiter I would expect that this would have a more positive impact for him, overall. Jupiter will have a protective effect from the more negative influence that Uranus can bring, but it doesn’t guarantee he’ll sail through unscathed.

As well, transiting Jupiter is close to Carney’s natal North Node. This is another influence that may bring a boost of luck for Carney, albeit also in another unpredictable and more chaotic way.

I know everyone wants me to make a prediction about whether Carney will win or lose the election. And I’m going to pull the classic astrologer move and say that I just can’t do this, because we don’t have an accurate birth time for him. Sorry, but it’s true!

Also, even if we did have a reliable chart for him, there’s just way too much chaos and uncertainty to make a firm prediction about anything right now. As I wrote in my 2025 forecast, March 2025 is the peak of crazy astrology for the entire year. And as I wrote in my overview of the 2020 decade, it’s a close runner-up for the craziest astrology of this decade as a whole.

So, all I can say is to expect the unexpected. It’s cliched, but apt. The ground is not solid right now, and things that seem solid will turn out to be mirages. There’s likely some major events coming that could easily throw everything off kilter. Again.

I’ll do another post soon, looking at the natal chart of Pierre Poilievre, Conservative party leader and main Carney rival. For now, I wish you well and hope you can find some firm footing in your own life.

    • omg thank you so much, this is incredible! If this is correct (and it does look to be legit) then that makes him a late Taurus rising. The astro dice were so close, ha! It actually puts the fixed star Algol right on his Ascendant, which is very interesting. It also means Uranus is on his Ascendant right now too. I will have to do another post now!

  • Hi Mel,
First time meeting you. One of our group…..11th House Astrology in Ottawa sent your link for your work on Mark Carney’s chart. The election is our next subject for our monthly online meeting.
I enjoyed your work and signed up for your newsletter. Looking out for more based on the birth time for Carney. Wish we had same for Poilievre. Elaine

    • The leak happened on March 15, which was the day that Mercury stationed retrograde – this is a classic MercRx communication/tech screw-up. The story went public on March 24, which was the day of the Mercury Rx cazimi (exact conjunction with the Sun). Cazimis often bring hidden things to light. In addition to it being a classic example of Mercury retrograde, it is also very eclipse-y. The lunar eclipse in Virgo was on March 14 and the news broke in the bardo period between eclipses. Eclipses are also associated with both obscuration and sudden insight.

        • I think it will just obfuscate it. Eclipses are about revelation and obscuration and while this event was certainly in the “revelation” camp, there’s so much other stuff going on that I think it’s going to be passed off as an “oops” moment and be forgotten. Way bigger things are occurring/being revealed that will override it. If anything, maybe people will realize that these so-called private platforms, like Signal, aren’t at all private.
